The 1348 Plague/ Peste was the most murderous event in European and perhaps Old-World history. Between 1/3 and 2/3 of Europe's population died. Maybe 200 million people have died during the three great waves of plague.
What was it like to experience that? How did people explain it and treat it? What impact did it have, short and long term, on people and planet? Where did it come from? What caused it? Is it a 'historical curiosity' or is it still a risk today? How does it compare with our experience of COVID? Are there lessons, and have we drawn them? And Ps, I won't give the rats an entirely free pass...but they have had a bad Press.
